Routines & Procedures
I use a lot of visuals to help my students follow a consistent schedule and provide multiple modes of instruction delivery. By stating directions verbally as well as having them written on the board alongside a picture, students are more likely to be first-time listeners and stay on task. I also briefly reiterate my expectations for behavior throughout our day as mini reminders to positively reinforce desirable behavior. Our lessons and transitions always follow the same structure, which helps my students know what to expect and how to be successful.
Examples
Strong Listener An example of a strong listener that I use at the beginning of the year to model and describe my expectations for student behavior while on the carpet.
Student Jobs My classroom uses student jobs that rotate every other week. This helps students practice responsibility, build independence, and contribute to our classroom community.
