About Me

Hi, I'm Kate! I am a passionate and experienced educator who believes every child deserves a classroom that feels safe, joyful, and full of possibility. I have always loved working with children, which has grown into a passion over the years. Between my experience and master's degree in early childhood and family development, I understand the importance of fostering positive and caring relationships with students and families. It is through the development of these positive relationships that educators can instill a love of learning, which sets students on a successful path, both academically and socioemotionally.

As a kindergarten teacher in a Title I school, I am deeply committed to creating an equitable classroom where every child feels seen, supported, and knows they belong. My classroom is a place where my students learn through hands-on activities, meaningful conversations, and develop a growth mindset. I use data to drive small-group instruction, differentiate for every learner, and celebrate growth at every stage. I strongly believe in a "warm demander" teaching style that pairs high expectations with scaffolding, collaboration, and compassion to help each child develop the confidence and skills they need to know they are capable and meet their potential.

Social-Emotional Learning Teaching Philosophy

Philosophy & Approach

I believe that great teaching starts with connecting with my students. I implement Responsive Classroom practices, such as morning meeting, to build a classroom community that is rooted in respect, kindness, and a growth mindset.

Consistent Routines & Procedures

Predictable routines give children the security they need to thrive. My daily schedule provides consistent routines and procedures that allow my students to follow a daily rhythm that they can easily follow and expect.

Social-Emotional Learning

I prioritize social-emotional learning throughout the day as it equips students with emotion regulation and self-awareness skills that enable them to focus, engage in learning, and persist through challenges.

Differentiated Instruction

Every child is a unique learner with different strengths, interests, and abilities. I use ongoing data from formative and summative assessments to structure small groups where I can tailor instruction so each student is challenged and supported.

Family Partnership

I prioritize consistent communication to build trust, strengthen connections, and ensure families feel actively involved in their child's educational journey. One way in which I achieve this is through sending weekly newsletters to highlight what we are currently learning.

Literacy-Rich Classroom

Every routine, interaction, and read-aloud is an opportunity for language development. My classroom is filled with fiction and nonfiction books that I routinely update to continually expose my students to high-quality literature.

Reflective Teaching

By intentionally examining my instructional methods, classroom interactions, and student progress, I can thoughtfully analyze what is working and what can be adjusted. With this practice I create more effective, responsive, and meaningful instruction for my students.
